Science of Learning

Foundations of Learning

Our pedagogy is based on the science of learning. We use science to understand how our brain functions, how memory works and how cognitive processes are developed. In doing this, we can then apply teaching strategies to enhance learning.

Articles we refer to include:

  • The Science of Learning
  • Learning, what is it and how might we catalyse it?

We explicitly teach to the Victorian Curriculum, along with non-cognitive factors, as outlined by a study from the University of Chicago, which include: academic behaviours, mindsets, perseverance, learning strategies and social skills.

We use the research from the Science Learning Research Centre (SLRC), in particular the PEN Principles (Psychology, Education, Neuroscience).

There are 12 PEN Principles, you can find more information about them at https://www.slrc.org.au/resources/pen-principles/
